Growing up I have always found solace in art. Whether it be painting, experimenting with oil and chalk pastels, pursuing photography as side job in addition to a hobby, to exploring and becoming educated in an art form that I was unprepared to find such joy and passion with. As a creative and as a designer, I am always wondering how I might improve my craft and am constantly on a journey to be the best artist I can be at that moment in time. I find inspiration in works that utilize color and shape in an interesting way rather than just a straightforward one and I am in awe of designers who can create the simplest of designs without being boring. I found revelation in the letterpress studio and the artists I have come to admire through that form, and by practicing this tactile and precise art I have found more motivation as a designer both in digital and analogous forms. So far in my journey as a graphic designer, I have had opportunities to explore a wide range of design forms and styles and have found that I thrive the most when brand identities from the ground up or when I am able to utilize my other skills as an artist and incorporate them into my designs.
I believe it is obvious that color is a very heavy influence in my designs, so long as it is appropriate, and I believe the time I have spent doing color studies with letterpress specifically have improved my skillset with color. My studies in letterpress as a graphic designer have also encouraged me to investigate organic shapes more and use them to my advantage when making designs rather than relying on the consistency that a geometric shape may provide during the process stages of my work. There is so much beauty to be found in all shapes, and to be able to use natural beauty to my advantage in my designs would be exceptional. Recently I had the pleasure of hearing and learning from an artist who attempts to replicate nature in her designs, and for her words and works I am so grateful and will use to push myself in my designs both professionally and personally. My hope is that the attention to detail I spend so much of my time on is seen in my final products, though as a designer I aspire to be able to not be so meticulous in everything I do, but rather find a flow and niche that is almost as natural as breathing. I want to be seen as a designer in this community who not only takes their time to create something worth seeing, but to create something that has longevity.
