Hello, my name is Lane Sweaney. It is not possible to describe the work I like to create in just a few words. I like to test the boundaries on ideas and challenge my self to create vastly different work, not just work that I “like”. I find great joy in turning a person’s ideas and visions into a visual that successfully represents them.
I enjoy film, photography, and graphic design. I strive to bring all my knowledge from all of those mediums together to create a truly interesting visual experience. I first gained interest in designing things in my third year of highschool. Overtime my work has evolved in many different ways. I tend to test the boundaries between minimalism and something feeling incomplete. Over the past year I have pushed my self to try to create work that I would ordinally not create unless told. This challenge has led me to create some of my best work including some of the work above. Someone once told me that it is easy for a person to design things that fit into their personality or aesthetic, but it is difficult for people to design things that fit into other people personalities and aesthetic. This quote has made me think about my work in a new way and always challenge myself to do things that are unnatural to me as the designer.
I differ from most designers when I say that I do not want to develop my own style. From a young age I have been interested in so many vastly different hobbies, from building cars to surfing to wrestling through out my highschool years. I want to take that same idea of being well versed in my choice of hobbies to my graphic design career. The idea of being confined by a style or a particular set of skills does not interest me, and it is actually quite scary. I strive to be able to create visually appealing work within all areas of graphic design.
Over the last year my love for graphic design has only grown stronger. The idea of being able to create something that people enjoy whether that be a magazine spread, a trademark, or the back of a t-shirt drives me to continue pursuing graphic design at full speed and test the boundaries of what looks “good” along the way.
