Hello! My name is Devin Poillucci as of right now April 2022, I am a Junior Graphic Design major at East Carolina University. My passion for Graphic Design and the arts is something that I have always had. Growing up with two Graphic Design parents I never fell short of a day without the influence of the arts. I am very fortunate to have two loving parents that have motivated me every day both spiritually and artistically. I believe I have always been a very creative person with everything I do, and utilizing my resources, classes, classmates, and Wonderfull teachers I am seeing my potential in this field unfolding day by day. What I love about Graphic Design is the unlimited potential it holds to communicate to an audience in a visual way. I learned at a young age that I was never the strongest at learning through long paragraphs of text or class lectures rather I learned the best through hands-on exercises and visuals. Learning my strengths and weaknesses about how I learn has made a huge influence on where I am now and how I express my work. I have always been a visual learner and I think that Graphic Design in the sense of creating visuals to send out a message or tell a story, was a big attraction for me to choose this path. I find the endless possibilities of what Graphic Design can do astonishing.
I think it is too early in my career for me to give myself a specific creative style for my work because I still have so much to learn and I don’t want to confine my potential to a specific label. So without labeling my style ill try my best to describe some themes, processes, and elements that I use frequently. When I am instructed on a project, the first thing that I do is look for research and inspiration. A lot of the time I find this through books and the internet. Next, I start my sketching and thumbnail phase where I jot down as many ideas as I can and sketch my rear off with any ideas that flow through my head until I have a solid idea of what I want to do. After this, it is just refined, refine, and refine until I have a solid well-polished project that I'm happy with. In my classes, we have critiques of where we are in the process and hearing all of my classmates' suggestions and inputs always helps me move forward. I am a firm believer in that there is no such thing as bad criticism. I am a very optimistic person and even when someone says exactly what I don’t want to hear, I still find the positive in what they have to say and use it to my advantage and advancement in the progress. I have always worked best in a team setting and environment ever since my days in elementary school. Looking toward the future I would love to find a job in Graphic Design and be involved in a team setting, and I am ecstatic about what the future holds for me.
